Cadillac Harris

Elisha Harris, III better known as “Cadillac” is the Head Football Coach at Indian River High School in Chesapeake.  When he took the job in 2002, the Indian River Braves had won less than three games in the previous three years.  In two years, Coach Cadillac led the team to the Regional Championship, by beating the two-time state champion Phoebus High School.  The Virginian Pilot reported it was the quickest turnaround of a high school football team in state history.  Coach Cadillac’s peers have voted him “Coach of the Year” numerous times.

Cadillac has been dedicated to student athletes in Hampton Roads and beyond for thirty years.  He was the first African American named head high school football coach in Virginia Beach, at Green Run High School.  Under his leadership, the school broke the record for the most students receiving full football scholarships to Division I Universities.  Many of them went on to play professionally, including Plaxico Burress of the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants, Al Chamblee of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as well as Matt Darby and Keith Goganious of the Buffalo Bills.

Coach Cadillac has also served as head coach of Maury High School in Norfolk and Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.  He spends his summers coaching at numerous football camps.

Among his many accomplishments, Cadillac established the Cadillac Harris Braves Open which has become the largest fundraiser for Indian River High School’s athletic programs.
